Introduction to Coaching

This one-day Introduction to Coaching is open to all school staff, teachers, support staff and head teachers. It is designed to act as a taster for anyone who is interested in evaluating how coaching would be applicable, how it improves the performance of school staff and its value as a CPD tool. In addition participants have the opportunity to watch coaching demonstrations by experienced coaches working in education.


Our aims:

To enable professionals to understand how coaching can support individuals to develop themselves and their careers.

To introduce the basic skills candidates need to perform effectively as coaches in schools, colleges and universities.

To engage participants in an interactive workshop where they can explore:

  • • what coaching is and how it differs from mentoring
  • • the benefits of coaching for those working in education and within the DfES coaching strategy 2005
  • • the basic tools for coaching conversations - effective questioning, listening and feedback
  • • the use of practical coaching tools that can enhance teaching and learning
  • • two effective coaching models with demonstrations and practice
  • • how these skills, models and tools can be transferred to the work-place and be used with peers, pupils and parents.

  • • the role of the Institute of Leadership and Management

Timing:

The training is from 9.30am – 4.00pm with two 10min breaks for coffee and 50mins for lunch.
